“Doing the Right Thing” at DES

Author and inspirational speaker Michael Zed Johnson recently visited Douglas Elementary School. Mr. Johnson is the author of Bully on the Bus. The book is about a young boy who bullied some young girls on a school bus. The bully later realizes how hurtful he is being and makes positive changes in his life to become a better person. The book’s content hits close to home for Mr. Johnson because the story is true and it is his own. Mr. Johnson used to be an un-knowing bully but realized he was only trying to fit in and the people he hurt were much braver than he was. He now travels to schools spreading his message about the importance of not being a bully. He told DES students heartfelt stories about his childhood and gave sound advice on how to be a better person. Mr. Johnson stressed to students on how important it is to be surrounded with positive role models and to always do the right thing. “Doing the right thing is the right thing to do” he stated.  He had autographed books available for students to purchase and due to a “pay it forward” donation of multi-state sponsors, all students at DES were able to receive a copy of Bully on the Bus.
