Turkeys in Disguise

What does a Christmas tree, a clown and a princess have in common? They are really turkeys in disguise. Students in Mrs. Cleveland’s class at Douglas Elementary School decorated a turkey picture with their families for a “Disguise a Turkey” project. Mrs. Cleveland has done this activity with her classes for the past few years. She introduces the project by reading a few books about turkeys. The books all have a common theme about a turkey trying to avoid being eaten. The students became empathetic to the turkey’s plight after reading these books and were very eager to disguise their own turkey. The students took their turkey home so they could decorate/disguise them with their family. They were encouraged to be as creative as possible. Giselle Trujillo disguised her turkey to look like a tree. Her mother collected leaves and her sister placed glitter on some of the leaves. Giselle then glued the leaves on the turkey to make a pattern. Each turkey in disguise was unique and creative but most of all it represented how family members worked together.
