"Secret Santa" sponsors honored at appreciation breakfast

Douglas Elementary School hosted a Secret Santa Appreciation Breakfast for members of the community that sponsored families in need with additional help for this holiday season. “The sponsors are a blessing,” said Shonda Raiford, DES Guidance Counselor who spearheaded the event. This was the fourth year the DES community provided a Secret Santa for many of our students. Teachers identified families they thought might need a little extra help at Christmas time.  A total of 11 families were served this year, and out of those families, 27 children received items off their wish lists.

DES would like to thank the following for their support: the Senior Choir, Deacons and Trustees at Science Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Mrs. Katie Langford-Broadwater, Sondra Broadwater, Cynthia Broadwater, Cooks Fellowship Hall, Kennedi Foundation, Episcopal Church of the Ridge, Trenton Correctional Institute, Mrs. Theresea Stover, Mrs. Bessie Dandy & DES Cafeteria Staff, Mr. and Mrs. Ulysses (Gwen) Chinn, Mrs. Windie Burton and Strong Tabernacle Church Family, Mrs. Cleveland and Family, Mrs. Oliphant and Family, Ms. Amanda Streu and Kep Steiger.

Raiford shared that many of this year’s sponsors are already looking forward to helping with Secret Santa project again next year.  If you or your organization is interested in participating, please call DES at 803-275-1752.
