NED’s Kindness Adventure Show Comes to DES

The students and teachers of Douglas Elementary School recently filled the school gymnasium for a special assembly, NED’s Kindness Adventure. Through the assembly students learned about the culture of Kenya and how to show kindness to others, no matter how different they may seem at first. The presenter explained some of the sights he and the cartoon character NED saw on their trip to Kenya. Meeting children at an elementary school in the capital city of Nairobi, the many kinds of wildlife inhabiting nature preserves and spending time at a village of the Maasai people were highlights of their trip.

In addition to showcasing the culture of Kenya and its many people, the presenter and NED used the assembly to remind the students that no matter how different someone else may be, treating them with kindness, respect and acceptance is best. There were interactive portions to the show as well, with some students being chosen to participate in a quiz about Kenyan life and culture, others talking about what they felt was the most important thing they learned from the show and one student being chosen to demonstrate the traditional dress of a Maasai warrior. DES strives to maintain a culture of kindness and acceptance of others.
