Celebrating Reading and Hot Cocoa

Mrs. Culpepper’s 2nd grade class at Douglas Elementary School gave her students a reading challenge for the month of January. Each student was given a copy of a hot cocoa mug that included marshmallows with a different way to read. Each marshmallow was equivalent to 20 minutes of reading. The students were required to have at least 10 marshmallows glued to their hot cocoa mug by the end of January. Some of the different ways they could read included reading with a grandparent, reading to their stuffed animal, reading outside, and many other fun ways to read.  Every student completed the January reading challenge. They celebrated with hot cocoa and marshmallows and with dipping Teddy Grahams into a cup of marshmallow fluff. Mrs. Culpepper decorated the table with a white table cloth and snowflakes sprinkled on the table. Mrs. Culpepper encourages her students to read and she likes to find fun ways to get them to read at home.
