VOLUNTEER AT DOUGLAS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Are you interested in volunteering at Douglas Elementary School? We have a variety of volunteer opportunities and would be thrilled to have you join us!

The safety and security of all DES students and staff is our primary concern. To maintain the fidelity of our safety and security protocols, participation in volunteer training and a National Sex Offender Registry Check is required of all school visitors and volunteers. In addition to participation in the sex offender registry check, a Criminal Background Screening is required of all Class B volunteers. Volunteer training, the National Sex Offender Registry Check, and the Criminal Background Screening are available at no cost to all interested volunteers and must be completed on an annual basis. 

Volunteers Approved during the 2025-2026 School Year

Great news! If you participated in an in person volunteer workshop last year, you do not need to attend another in person training. Here are your steps for renewing your volunteer status for the 2026-2027 school year:

  1. Review the refresher training video
  2. Complete the Volunteer Quiz
  3. Complete the Volunteer Application
  4. FOR CLASS B VOLUNTEERS ONLY – Visit our district’s SecureVolunteer Webpage and complete your criminal background screening.
  5. Get involved!

New Volunteers

Please complete the following steps to begin volunteering in ECSD schools:

  1. Attend an in person volunteer workshop. Volunteers may attend a workshop at any school regardless of the school(s) at which they would like to volunteer.

  1. Complete the Volunteer Application.
  2. FOR CLASS B VOLUNTEERS ONLY – Visit our district’s SecureVolunteer Webpage and complete your criminal background screening.

Class A Volunteer

A Class A volunteer is defined as an individual who will be supervised by school personnel at all times while in contact with students. Examples of Class A volunteer opportunities might include, but are not limited to:

  • Class parent or classroom tutor
  • Lunch buddy
  • Reading buddy
  • Front office volunteer
  • Organizing parents for special projects
  • Lecturing on special topics

Class B Volunteer

A Class B volunteer is defined as an individual who will assist in settings that may not be supervised by school personnel at all times. Examples of Class B volunteer opportunities might include, but are not limited to:

  • Field Trip chaperones
  • Coaching/Club assistants
  • On-site tutoring provided outside of the classroom
  • Mentors
  • Overnight event chaperones
